|This multi-million dollar waterfront project involves adaptive reuse and renovation, including seismic, to an historic 525,000 s.f. building. The project included master planning of building and site, plus the design of facilities for multiple tenants including, a manufacturer of solar panel technology, outdoor gear / sportswear companies, a producer of recycled glass countertops, a photography company and federal agency. Design required insight into: the building’s historic features, the urban waterfront context, and the enhancement and preservation of its original architectural nature to recreate the symbolic functionality of the factory.
The result is a rejuvenated facility with a lively mix of uses; offices, manufacturing, R&D, restaurant and dining facilities, retail, public performance venues and a visitor center. Sustainability is incorporated through energy efficiency, use of photo voltaics, green materials with recycled content, and sustainable landscaping.
