The design of the Gardiner W Spring Auditorium is a beautiful example of the Mission architectural style. Over the years the building has undergone many modifications that compromised the historical significance and grandeur. This renovation brings the building back to its original splendor along with tackling the necessary code requirement upgrades that have evolved over the past 80 years since it was constructed.

Chaffey College was established in 1882 and became part of the Chaffey Joint Unified School District in 1901. In 1933, Long Beach Earthquake damaged most of the building resulting in the condemnation of the campus. In the midst of the Great Depression, and with the district in dire financial condition, superintended Gardiner W Spring applied for and was granted funding from ‘The New Deal’ through the Works Progress Administration. After nearly a decade, the Auditorium was completed on the new campus in 1939 and named for the celebrated superintended who made it all happen.
