The designer was commissioned to renovate and re-purpose the packing house — originally built in 1911 and the home of the Sunkist Company. The building is listed on the National Historic Register, so the program only allowed for interior renovations, preserving the historic integrity of the space.
The 42,000 square-foot, two-level structure will showcase 25 upscale restaurant vendors in a communal-style dining hall. While the communal-style dining was a goal, the intention was to create a unified space that also includes small vignettes of more intimate spaces as well as gathering areas. The vignettes and gathering areas all have their distinct style while cohesion was maintained with the use of certain design elements.
