This high school stadium site is perched above the campus, tucked into rolling hills overlooking the Pacific. What started as a modernization to a non-descript 1960’s field house evolved into a replacement project due to seismic faults crisscrossing the existing facility. A tiny sliver of land occupied by a relocatable toilet building was identified as buildable, placing the new structure in a prominent location. At the heart of the design is the sustainable solution. A key part of that strategy is the integration of the modular toilet building into the new facility. Created to meet LEED and CHPS criteria, the design includes a rich pallet of sustainable strategies. The new 2,900 square foot Field House is a billboard for athletic competition, housing home and visiting team locker rooms, showers and toilets, coaches’ offices, therapy and meeting rooms. It celebrates the bonds between school and community, and athletics and scholarship.
