| The Sierra Vista High School Music Building enhances this public school’s music education program by providing facilities that optimize acoustics and instruction space while reducing outward sound transmission and silencing external noise. The project goals were met by using outward corbelling reinforced masonry to create non-parallel and splayed walls; factoring cubic volume; providing sound isolation between rooms; and adding acoustical treatments and ribbon diffusers within each classroom—all while adhering to a restrictive budget. The result is an upside-down, acoustically superior structure in which the roof holds up the hyperboloid walls. |
