Shriners for Children Medical Center
(# 696)
Category:
Images Description Credits
Shriners’ new medical center provides specialized outpatient orthopedic services for young patients, replacing the aged Shriners LA hospital, an acute-care, inpatient facility. The facility reflects the organization’s new approach to delivering outpatient care, while partnering with local hospitals to provide higher-acuity inpatient services. The 3 story facility offers outpatient surgery, clinical services, rehabilitation and therapeutic landscapes, and leverages evidence-based design strategies, the redevelopment of a suburban site, and an outward-facing building design to improve the healthcare experience. It has connections to daylight and the outdoors from almost any space. Upper-story terraces offer opportunities for activities from waiting and respite to recreation and rehabilitation. The project balances patient privacy and safety needs with the City of Pasadena’s master planning goals for an open, accessible building that contributes to the quality of the suburban space.
