Brown Residence
(# 430)
Images Description Credits
“Architecture starts when you carefully put two bricks together. There it begins.” Mies' quote captures the essence of the Brown Residence. A simple palette of concrete, stone, and wood began the conversation that resulted in a dialogue between the context, the individual, and a unique suburban site. Ultimately these materials worked together as a mean to carry the unique light quality of this location and acted as a way to mark the passing of time. While a home registers on many levels it is the understanding of space through time that carries the most meaning and it was through the planning and sectional qualities that the residence was able to capitalize on this essential goal.
