After completing their unprecedented Kickstarter campaign with over $2.4 million in project backing, the Oculus team approached us for the design of their fast growing offices in Orange County, San Francisco, and Dallas. With a young and dynamic group of employees working on cutting edge technology most people have never even heard of, a totally new type of space was required to enable employees to do work at their own pace and in their own style.
The workspace at Oculus provides a variety of different zones for employees to utilize with an emphasis on casual meeting and team spaces. Across from the conference room, counter top café seats face a white board upon which algorithms will be hashed out. Homestyle gaming stations are set up in front of TV banks for Rift testing. The elevated open café is designed with a sense of community and collaboration in mind. Waist high divider walls keep the cafe connected with the rest of the office and make sure natural light floods the space as unobstructed views to the outside are maintained throughout the entire office. Writable surfaces were a high priority, as meeting spaces pepper the floorplan for working out solutions to difficult problems.
