After losing her life partner to cancer, the client approached the architects to design a dream home within the community of Corona Del Mar, CA. Her late husband had previously worked with the architects on the design of a townhouse on Begonia Avenue. Following his passing, the client desired a new family-oriented home that would connect her & her four legged friends to the walkable neighborhood, north of Pacific Coast highway. The 45’x118’ property at the corner of 5th Street & Narcissus Avenue, opposite the Oasis Community Center and Gardens, was the perfect location.
The design focused on integrating open living spaces with an exterior courtyard to take advantage of abundant, northern light. For daylighting purposes, the massing of the home sets back from the courtyard and allows natural light to flood the interiors; including the four bedrooms & four and a half baths on the second floor. Concealed within the traditional roof forms is a third floor retreat and roof top deck, which takes advantage of the topography with framed views of the Pacific Ocean, Corona del Mar and Jasmine View Park. Rich building materials and intricate detailing create a timeless home defined by the scale and fabric of the village. |
