Completion NA
Square Footage 8,000 SF
Specific Use of Building Music Recording + Visual Studio
Project Location Santa Ana, CA
A start-up venture, Hybrid Studio is the result of the vision of two young entrepreneurs with not much capital but loads of sweat equity and energy as well as Hollywood music industry experience. Their goal was to avoid the dark, cramped, thrift-store furnished typical recording studio environment and instead create a total experience designed to meet both the superior performance needs and the social, collaboration and relaxation break from the intensity of recording sessions.

The 8,000 square foot design transforms a non-descript warehouse in Santa Ana into a state-of-the-art environment that masters the art of audio and visual production in a single, fully integrated production facility. The studio can create everything from video and photography to sound mixing and mastering, and producing events from a small concert to a live audience TV show. It is a one-stop shop for top quality, audio and visual production in Orange County. The program also includes 3,000 sf sound stage with a pre-lit 35 foot cyclorama backdrop and supporting makeup and green room and an editing suite. Custom CNC MDF acoustic panels in the 1,000 square foot Live Room include patterns engineered to work in conjunction with the LA sound panels to create optimum acoustics for master recordings.

The design solution is inspired by the patterns created by sound waves. Sculpted, custom fabricated MDF fins create dynamic vertical surfaces that choreograph movement along the main circulation spine and the main front-of-house spaces: a collaborative room, a gaming lounge, closing room and food and bar zone. The spatial experience mimics the sensation of sound waves rhythmically moving as people pass
by. Conceptually, the wave walls respond to their location by varying in amplitude and depth: quieter, smaller sound waves in the intimate spaces are complemented by fully animated waves wrapping around the recording studio.

The space feels upbeat and alive with a vibe of professionalism while still appealing and comfortable to a wide variety of music and recording industry clients. The design creates a unique identity for new company branding it as a dynamic, creative collaborative.
