Primary Tech is a public elementary school located on the Cal Poly Pomona campus. The project was developed for the College of Education and Integrated Studies, CEIS. It is meant as a fully functioning school and training ground for the college of education students of the program. The school will serve children of faculty, staff, and those from the families of surrounding neighborhoods.
The 45,000 square foot k-6 school includes 2 classrooms per grade level, and buildings for administration, library, art and music classes, and a full sized auditorium and gymnasium. The truly unique feature of the school is the canyon of outdoor social space and strong geological influences. The rumored site of a fault was inspiration for the creation of a school that gives children a sense of the always changing earth they live and the strong relationship they, as Californians have with faults and earthquakes. It becomes a truly experiential, memorable and exciting learning environment. |
