Westridge School - Sustainable Science Building
(# 416)
Category:
Images Description Credits
Encompassing approximately 15,000 SF on two levels, with the ground floor situated below street level elevation for scale and contextual purposes, the Westridge School Sustainable Science Building itself is a teaching tool for environmental education. With indoor and outdoor classroom spaces, students have the opportunity to observe and evaluate “green” technology, including an interactive energy management system featuring photovoltaic panels, light and motions sensors, and eco-dimming lighting systems.

The LEED Platinum rated building, which houses the upper school science program, has become part of the curriculum. The students actively engage in experiential learning, from monitoring energy consumption to scientifically observing decomposition in a natural environment. They are able to appreciate and analyze first-hand how resources can be utilized, conserved and re-purposed in ways that promote environmentally friendly practices.
