Pomona College is committed to providing housing for all students, but to do so the College needed to increase their bed count by approximately 10%. This project met this demand and offers suite-style rooms, a shared living room with kitchenette and private bath facilities.
The project is comprised of two ‘L’ shaped buildings, with two and three-story wings sited to strengthen the edge of campus, reclaim the playing field as a more active part of campus and allow the light, ventilation and views of the existing dorms nearby to remain unobstructed. To encourage community there are also numerous group study and lounge spaces open to the entire campus, locations for the College’s ‘Outdoor Education Center’ and ‘Green Bike Program’, a public roof garden, a rooftop classroom containing solar PV arrays and a refashioned turf playing field above a subterranean parking garage. The is LEED Platinum certified as the first residence hall in California to receive this accreditation.
