Knowledge Exchange Library
(# 762)
Category:
Images Description Credits
The project is located at 1786 North Spring St. Los Angeles, California. Albion Riverside Park is to the west/ south side of the library. The site is srounded with many schools and
worship places. The purpose of this project is to bring all the people in the community with different interests to the same area to exchange knowledge.
The Form is taken from a simple box with the main 2 circulations (Leisure and Learning) going diagonally towards the last floor. The leisure path brings visitors from the neighbor park to the cafe, multipurpose, studio and at the ends to the reading space on the third floor. The learning path brings visitors from the street to the lecture room, classrooms and at the third floor meets the leisure path.
The idea of the wooden truss system in this project was taken from the Aspen Art Museum. In this library, the designer brought the unique form of the truss system to the facade by changing the material to Aluminum for lighter weight and reducing the heat transfer to space. The facade drops its shade to the floors which the building would get warped in the “X” like the design.
