The new building symbolizes the mission of the university to implement a new approach to student services, encourage administrative collaborations, and create a welcoming center to the campus. Sustainably designed and engineered, the building’s curving form and unique undulating roof draw inspiration from the surrounding mountains and foothills that define the campus. The roof is the largest passive building ‘system’ and main performance driver, balancing shade, heat gain and daylight through highly optimized overhangs to ensure occupant comfort. Expansive, 62 foot-wide floorplates provide copious daylight throughout the interior spaces and pleasant views of the surroundings and intensely landscaped courtyard. Located on a natural pedestrian path between the library and the main parking on campus; its siting energizes this connection, transforming it into a shaded “street” that provides clear access to student services as well as relief from the sun.
