The Chabot College Library and Learning Connection rises above neighboring buildings to create a striking beacon in the heart of campus. The building strives to express the values of its diverse student body through:
<li>Inclusion: The open first floor is welcoming with gathering spaces, library collections, seating, a social stair, and day-lit atrium.
<li>Diversity: The second floor houses the Learning Connection and Communities to support the entire student body.
<li>Equity: The third-floor reading room is a democratic learning space, with a terrace offering campus views.
Our team engaged students, faculty, and campus stakeholders to understand student journeys. Inspired by this outreach, the design seeks visual clarity and transparency, and intertwines academic resources, study and social spaces to soothe the stigma around seeking help. Centered on the wellbeing of its occupants, the design approach centered on sustainability, and is prepositioned as a Net-Zero facility. |
