Creative Space - Arts and Musical Theater
The original shape design needed to follow certain limitations and criteria’s, such as establishing a linear symmetrical design within a square, and using only continuous curves and lines.
I created a design that will allow the me to open a wide variety of volume and space to the 3-D structure. For the entrance I had to establish a focal point for which viewers or the public can distinguish a clear entry into the structure. My intent was to craft a simple, yet elaborate entrance that will openly invite the public. A 14 foot tall overhead, held by three posts, is placed right on the edge of the structure to lead the viewers around and towards the entrance. This large wing is standing tall high in the air as one makes their way into the structure, giving the entrance a breath taking view.
From an overhead view, we can see the shadows formed from these two large platforms practically flowing like clouds over the structure. My intent with these two large “butterfly wings” was to give emphases to how enormous this structure can be spotted from a far. The open shape cut almost in the center of the second level allows for a sunshine to lighten the interior and create an interesting shadow as the light makes its way around and over the structure.
I created a dynamic architectural space. The local art patrons are invited to enter the space through the multi level horizontal entry statement. Upon entering the arts and musical theater, the viewer is transitioned between a variety of positive and negative space. A transitional experience that leads the viewer in and though the structure while enjoying a journey through spaces that expresses an explicit or implied areas, builds upon the feel of temptation and mystery as the viewer makes their way to its destination. Once reaching the major space, the viewer is now open to view anywhere around that space and have a variety visual experience in every direction. |
