Images Description Credits
This project comprises the complete redesign of the rooms in a house which was part of the Chancellor estate by architect George Washington Smith, Montecito, CA, 1925. The original estate house had been subdivided into three separate homes, with the center section moved to an adjacent site. This project, the rear section of the original house, included the removal of inappropriate modifications, relocation of rooms and a new spatial sequence. Many areas were taken down to the studs. Almost all of the finishes are new, including beams, stenciling, fireplace surrounds, doors, windows, floors and vaulted Dining Room ceiling. The works of the original architect guided the current design, from the detailing of architectural finishes to the color palette and furnishings. While Spanish, Italian and English antiques are used throughout, the project was designed with 21st century conveniences and comforts in mind.
