East Falls is a community in the northwest section of Philadelphia, located along the Schuylkill River. It is a “gateway” for the people of the northwest suburbs of Philadelphia to the City Center. Just as this is true on a large scale, the East Falls Gateway complex is a “gateway” to its community. With its dynamic form that allows circulation into the complex itself, it draws bikers, joggers and the general community together to its center point.
The ground level is for public usage with 30,000 square feet of retail units and restaurants. In total there are 50 apartment units. This totals to 200 parking bays which are located underneath the complex and entered in from the west-facing facade.
Circulation - East Falls Gateways unique design will bring people from many different backgrounds together becoming the nexus of its community.
Program - Retail units are located on the ground level for easy public access, while residential units have been elevated to take advantage of the great views.
Green Roofs and Communal Gardens - The green spaces in any community are vital. Many of the apartments have their own private garden and for those who don’t, they may make use of the communal gardens at the top of each elevator.
Ground Floor - The ground floor is primarily for public usage. The program includes 20 retail units, 7 restaurants and three primary vertical circulation areas for the residents of East Falls Gateway. Three of the restaurants use the roof space above them to take advantage of the great views the site has to offer.
Third Floor - The third floor consists of a total of 18 apartments and the three vertical circulation areas. There is also usable roof space that will become gardens for the various apartments. |
