Images Description Credits
The history of this California campus was founded on the agricultural sciences in 1904. This 40,000 SF plant growth environments looks at technology and design to take the school into the next level of agricultural research and continue its impactful presence in education and in the field. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the design evolved from continually modeling and testing of roof forms, air movements, heat gain/loss, light, moisture, and water. The upper level greenhouses align with the lower level laboratory spaces modulating the dynamic massing of the building. The two levels integrate though alignments of venting walls, columns, windows, and brick work. Designed for resiliency with key metrics including Community, Economy, Innovation, Design for Change, and Resources. This building is an instrument to leaning environmental sustainability as students can measure, control, and observe the development of plant growth in a safe, comfortable environment.
