ecotone
(# 175)
Images Description Credits
Due to the delicate nature, and the overall vastness of the site, the challenge lies in finding a balance between building and context. Navigating the demands of site preservation, while providing an educational center to serve visitors and researchers alike, the project sits in the ecotone where development meets nature. The building shall be driven by its surroundings and reflect the natural environments that make this location a place of sanctuary. By embracing the three ideas of place, craft, and community in their unique configurations, the center will become a project unto itself.

The visitor research center will exist nestled within the natural features of the preserve. The center will provide modern spaces to learn and observe, while utilizing low maintenance materials that allow the building to rest unobtrusively in the surrounding landscape, and weather with time, while displaying intuitive building tectonics.
