A Look At Desert Modernism
(# 154)
Images Description Credits
When you drive towards Palm Springs, there are a few things that you’re bound to notice about the architecture; that many of the homes have butterfly roofs, clerestory windows, and exciting paint schemes.
Beginning in the late 1950’s, there was a large need for housing. World War 2 had ended and the economy was picking up. Families started to have more children, meaning they also needed larger homes at affordable prices.
Architect William Krisel was a major driving force behind the development of Palm Springs. The home you'll view below was designed by William Krisel on a 40x40 square, built by the Alexander Construction Company, and completed in 1961. With an unobstructed roofline and a coat of paint in the original colors intended by Krisel, this home is a mid century marvel.
