Specific Use of Building Sunnylands Administration and Operations Campus
Project Location Rancho Mirage
The campus utilizes local, enduring, utilitarian materials for cost-effectiveness and maximum impact with the simplest means. Buildings are aesthetically compatible with existing context and timeless materials: lending consistency across the Sunnylands Estate. The campus exploits clean modern forms utilizing steel, concrete block, plaster, and well-shaded glazing.
The project scope is comprised of a 14,766 SF Administration Building which functions as a hub for the diverse staff, a 7,374 SF
Archive Building that provides a climate-controlled repository for the Annenberg's archive and a 13,746 SF Operations Building organized as two adjacent spaces; an unconditioned equipment storage/repair building and a Grounds/Operation/Maintenance building. An 872 SF Engineered Wetland Building, accommodates ecological waste treatment and processing. This building accepts effluent, from existing Visitors Center and Admin and Operations Campus.  Clarified water goes back to the Visitors Center and New Campus to flush toilets and irrigate plant material. These structures utilize exposed steel post/beams and braced frames, complemented by white split face CMU, single score CMU and metal deck.
The buildings optimize solar orientation and minimize east/west glazing and accompanying heat gain.  This combination of glazing strategies allows for optimum daylight. The quality of daylight--and direct views onto adjacent micro-climatic gardens--optimizes employee satisfaction and promotes a sense of joy and wellbeing. Additionally, indoor air quality is optimized by innovative roof ventilators and low-energy “heat-exchange” cooling. Project is awaiting final LEED Platinum certification.
