After a series of devastating floods in the early 20th Century, the Army Corps of Engineers forever channelized the LA River to protect life and property along its 51 unpredictable miles. Following decades of environmental and ecological advocacy, there is shifting public sentiment and coordinated campaigns to revitalize the river as a multi-functioning infrastructure centerpiece.

As a result, Not a Sunflower Farm along the utility park promenade critically examines the complex layers of jurisdictions, fragmentations, and historical fabric of Los Angeles, presenting a unique opportunity to coalesce public, private, and community efforts to reshape a more equitable and sustainable future. This is a long-term proposal that seeks the potential to extend along the whole utility grid corridor, channelizing a multifaceted opportunity to make the tangible and equitable growth of the dispersed community become a woven reality through remediation, education, and growth.
