The San Bernardino Valley College Technical Education Center reimagines career and technical education as an integrated, performance-driven learning environment where architecture, pedagogy, and sustainability are inseparable. Conceived as a “Living Lab,” the project replaces isolated programs with a connected framework of flexible labs, collaboration spaces, and visible building systems that foster learning. Architectural form emerges from performance, with daylighting, natural ventilation, photovoltaic canopies, and thermal chimneys shaping the student experience and the campus's identity. Operable boundaries between labs, exhibit spaces, and circulation zones create an active interface that strengthens industry partnerships and community connections. Rather than concealing sustainable systems, the LEED Platinum design celebrates them as teaching tools, demonstrating how architecture can elevate technical education into a transformative, equitable, and impactful learning environment. |
