Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood transforms the heart of the UC San Diego campus into a new home for Thurgood Marshall College. Organized around the concept of “Woven Home,” the project interweaves housing, and academics, landscape into a continuous framework of campus life. Terraces, courtyards, and shared interior commons are threaded through the site, creating a layered network of movement and social exchange based on the social justice principles of the college.
The architecture is shaped through topography, climate, and nature. Building masses are positioned perpendicular to the coast and traverse a 50’ grade change to bring light, air, and views, deep into the neighborhood. Patterned facades reflect tones and patterns found in the earth, eucalyptus trees, and Kumeyaay history. Ridge Walk North establishes student housing as an active civic framework, embedded within the life, culture, and geography of the university. |
