Canterbury Court reinterprets the timeless desert courtyard to create a home where refined design, thermal performance, and crafted simplicity converge. Positioned around groupings of forty year old California Fan Palms and tucked at the end of a cul de sac, the residence transforms a constrained infill-site into a serene desert retreat through disciplined planning, expressive materiality, and a deliberate unfolding of space.
A series of concentric CMU walls radiates outward from the circular public realm, recalling ripples from a stone dropped into a still pond. These walls establish the architectural perimeter, shielding the home from noise, headlights, and neighboring views while asserting a confident modern presence. Passing through them reveals a tranquil, sky framed courtyard—an unexpected moment of calm that signals a transition away from daily demands. This layered choreography of enclosure and openness allows the home to turn inward without ever feeling confined. |
