College of the Desert Athletic Complex
(# 106)
Images Description Credits
The Project’s mission is to create an exciting and lively place to see and be seen where students can work out, hang out and relax in a sustainable environment. Located in the Coachella Valley, the project includes renovation of an existing building currently housing shower and locker rooms into state-of-the-art health and fitness facility with the construction of a new 35,000 SF competition gymnasium and tennis complex. The College’s mission to “Create a Model Sustainable Campus” is reflected in the project’s LEED Gold certification.

The high efficiency envelope, cool roof, insulated precast panels, innovative HVAC systems, 100% naturally daylighting for gymnasium and efficient lighting with controls create a building that exceed Title-24 standards by 28%. The east façade’s custom panels which provides both wayfinding and solar control is an example of the design team’s approach to have the facility wears its sustainability: where design and sustainability create one expression.
