Skovshoved Sailing Roof (# 224) |

 |
This submission is to the category of ‘Community Space Design’ for the Student Design Awards.
Presented here is the final design charrette from a spring semester studio focused on community-driven architecture woven into the urban fabric of Copenhagen, a city whose contemporary architectural culture emphasizes ‘design for all’. It is a cooking-learning lab and culture house focused on Danish seafood located in the harbor of Skovshoved, a small suburb 5 miles north of Copenhagen holding a rich fishing heritage dating back to the 13th century. The program was centered around the idea of creating a community ‘living room’ for current harbor-goers to learn about traditional Danish seafood preparation, engage in classes on newer and more sustainable sea harvesting techniques, and find a place to relax and socialize in the harbor landscape. The resulting design thus creates an alluring beacon of culture and education to foster a new, communal atmosphere in a once-bustling fishing village. |
