| The original Barn building was over a century old and, as such, preserving the desired character required attentive planning and execution. The goal was to maintain the historic identity of The Barn while transforming it into a modern facility. The original 1917 roof structure was preserved and remains a defining feature in the restored dining room. The timber framing in the Barn Dining building is a constant element in the history of the building, providing warmth and evoking the pastoral history amidst a dense, constantly moving campus.
The complex is composed of five buildings that act in harmony to create an integrated indoor / outdoor facility that serves many programs. Each of the five buildings has its own unique architectural character while adhering to massing and scale that unifies the complex. Landscaping, hardscape, fencing, and other site elements are precisely placed to complete the synthesis of the complex.
