Riverside Main Library (# 194) |
|
|
The new Riverside Main Library is elevated 36 feet above street level to capture views of the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains to the north and Mt. Rudidoux to the south and west. Created below is an 8,900 SF covered outdoor public plaza at ground level for community events such as markets, festivals, and gatherings. A public meeting room and Friends of the Library bookstore are also at ground level. On the 3rd floor of the building, the main floor of the library, an outdoor reading terrace also functions as event space and is adjacent to a community meeting room. Archival storage is provided in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment and includes an area for scholars and the public that is furnished with tables from Riverside’s 1906 Carnegie library. An innovation center, a creative, flexible workspace for young adults, and the children’s library are located at the third floor, with adult collections and group study rooms located on the fourth floor. |
